Charles Zuker, Ph.D.
Dr. Zuker is Professor and Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Departments of Biology and Neurosciences, School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He has been a professor at UCSD since 1986 and is the first holder of the Tamara and Kevin Kinsella Chair of Neurobiology. He is a leading authority in molecular neurobiology, working on neuronal signaling mechanisms. He serves on numerous national and international advisory panels and review boards, including those of several private foundations.
Among his many honors, Dr. Zuker was a Jane Coffin Childs Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry at UC Berkeley; Whitaker Health Sciences Fund Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and a European Molecular Biology Organization Fellow. He is the recipient of the Cogan (1999) and Alcon Awards (2000) and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Zuker is Scientific Co-Founder of Aurora Biosciences, acquired in 2001 by Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: VRTX); Scientific Co-founder of Senomyx (Nasdaq: SNMX), 1999; Member, Scientific Advisory Board, Sequana Therapeutics, San Diego, California, 1997-1999; and Member, Scientific Advisory Board, Ambit Biosciences, Inc., San Diego, California, 2000 to present. Dr. Zuker received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
